English Language Arts Strategies

Goal

  • Reading by 3rd Grade: By June 2024, the percentage of 3rd graders performing on grade level will  increase by 20% as measured by iReady.  3rd grade student pass rate on the Reading SOL will increase by 10%. 

Strategies

  • Improve integrity of implementation of new core curriculum, English Language Development program, and/or intervention programs by using FCPS-adopted resources with fidelity.

  • Use embedded formative assessments in the new core curriculum to guide Tier 1 and Tier 2 instructional decisions.

  • Increase use of data to plan instruction and monitor progress during intervention to ensure that students demonstrating risk master foundational skills.

Mathematics Strategies

Goal

  • Math: On the spring 2025 Math SOL tests, unadjusted pass rates will increase by 10% for all students and for the SWD subgroup.

Strategies

  • Increase teachers' content knowledge and implementation of the 2023 FCPS mathematics program of studies.
  • Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and effective mathematics intervention.
  • Increase teachers' implementation of strategies and conversation structures that increase academic talk between students.
  • Monthly administrative walkthroughs and feedback to each classroom and special education teacher
  • Use unit common assessments and formative assessments throughout the unit to guide Tier 1 and Tier 2 instructional decisions.

Students with Disabilities

Goal

  • On the spring 2025 Reading & Math SOL tests, unadjusted pass rates for SWD will increase by 20%

Strategies

  • Regular SPED meetings to provide professional learning about instructional strategies to address the learning needs of SPED students based on their psychological and educational testing.
  • Utilize Data Dialogue process to strengthen IEP data collection, analyze growth assessment and unit assessment data, and strengthen services.
  •  Administrators to institute classroom walkthroughs to observe Special Education teachers delivering instruction and provide feedback.

Multilingual Learners

Goal

  • By the end of the 2024-2025 school year, school WIDA Growth for multilingual learners will exceed 55%.

Strategies

  • Work with OSS ESOL Support to support ESOL team to group students for instruction and provide support with the implementation of the new ELD curriculum.
  • Quarterly Data Dialogues with ESOL team to look at ELD progress with the use of assessments provided in the new ELD curriculum."
