Here is the latest from your Woodlawn PTA:

MEETING:

Please attend a PTA MEETING on March 30th at 7pm. We will discuss progress and events and Principal Elliot will be present to share information about Woodlawn. The meeting will be by zoom ( and maybe ) in person. Updates to follow. Remember you put the "P" in PTA. Please email with ideas, compliments and questions before the meeting.

FUNDRAISER:

We are still collecting shoes for our SCHOOL FUNDRAISER. Please consider sending gently worn shoes donations to school next week. Your children can drop them off in the white boxes at the school entrances when they enter from the bus or from kiss-n-ride.

EVENTS:

THE BOOK FAIR is here! The Book Fair will last from March 6-10! Woodlawn ES will be hosting a FAMILY BOOK FAIR NIGHT on Thursday, March 9. Students and families can purchase books from 4:30-7:15pm. Volunteers are needed. If you can help, please contact Ms Winer, the librarian.

Please check your child's bag. Multiple children signed up to participate in a SPELLING BEE. The Bee is a great way to learn new words. You do not have to be great speller to join.. Top Winners Earn a Ice Cream or Pizza Party! So far it looks like Mr. Morse's class has top chances. He has 5 applicants. Doesn't your student deserve some ice cream and a bigger vocabulary? OPPORTUNITY:

If your child is has ever considered STARTING A BUSINESS, have I got news for you! Saturday, March 13th, KidBiz, Inc. will be hosting a Teen Entrepreneurs Expo and a Children's Business Fair at Hayfield Secondary School. They are inviting entrepreneurs from age 6 to 18 to apply for a free booth to market their businesses and sell their products/services. Visit https://www.KidBizInc.com for more info and to set up your virtual booth. Business ideas, coaching, and marketing support are provided! Your child can attend and there is still time to participate if you like. The company is called kidBiz, Inc. Check them out here: Coalition to Promote Youth Entrepreneurship (kidbizinc.com). The company has no affiliation with Woodlawn Elementary or the PTA but if your child is interested they will come to a PTA meeting. Let us know.

VOLUNTEER REQUESTS:

We would like to host a MOVIE NIGHT. Please let us know if you can donate 2 hours or less of your time on March 24th. We cant do it without you! You join and your family can help pick the movie.

COMMITEE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

If you have a business or skill that you would like to share, please let us know. One hour of your time or one small gift can help design our PTA T-shirt, volunteer during recess, donate for teacher appreciation events, share ideas, share talents, share your ideas!

FIRST PTA EVENT!

The PTA will have a MEET AND GREET to take place on February 23 during Woodlawn's Literacy Night at 6:30pm. Please come by the PTA table to meet to the hard working Officers who are manning the PTA table. Pizza will be provided free for members. Pizza is $2 for non members. First few members will receive an exclusive PTA member prize. We speak English and Spanish! Don't be shy! For those who have asked, tonight is a chance for parents to experience literacy instruction techniques. That the unofficial summary. Please check the school website or your announcements for more info. Hope to see you tonight! 

El PTA tendrá un MEET AND GREET que tendrá lugar el 23 de febrero durante la Noche de Alfabetización de Woodlawn a las 6:30pm. Message from the Woodlawn Elementary PTA! 

The Woodlawn PTA is up and running.  We have 26 fully paid members, our insurance is back in force, the bank account is operational, and the Member Portal is fully operational.  Your Officers will hold an organizational meeting in mid-January, but we have not been idle.  We will initiate a membership drive and a fundraiser starting in January.  No one likes fundraising, so we selected the perfect non-fundraiser project.  It is a shoe drive.  We will collect bags of gently used and new shoes for developing nations.  We will get paid per pound based on how much we collect. The more we collect, the more we make per pound.  The great thing about this fundraiser is that no one is asking for money, and we can get our family and friends to send in shoes too.  We have other ideas such as “Movie nights,” “Parent’s night out,” “Taco truck Fridays,” and “After school activities.”  We will have committees responsible for each activity.  This is an excellent opportunity for a small group of friends to take on one specific task.  If you have any ideas, please let us know.

Meanwhile, please join your PTA now.  What do I get out of it?  Your PTA works to give you more afterschool activities for you and your kids, more assistance in the school, and better communication overall.  Whenever we put on an event such as movie night or parent’s night out, PTA members participate for free while nonmembers must pay a fee.  Often times the fee will be equal to the cost of a PTA Membership.

How much is a PTA Membership?  It is $10 for an individual or $13.75 for a family (family membership provides 2 voting memberships).  Where do I sign up?  Go to this website; https://woodlawnespta.memberhub.com/store.  What if I have more questions?  Contact any of your PTA Officers.  If they don’t know the answer, they will work to find you the person that does.
