First Graders from Mrs. Belzer's class celebrated the Month of the Military Child with a visit from James McGruder's grandfather and family.  Sargent Major McGruder; retired; shared with the students the importance of learning about our Nations Flag and saying thank you to all of those who serve, including the children of military members. SGM McGruder shared that even though he is retired, that SGM McGruder and his family still serve by honoring the Nation's Flag and service members through serving at flag ceremonies, one which he had just completed prior to arriving to the classroom. James's father was a military child and so James' family knows all about serving and sacrifice.  Mrs. McGruder, a FCPS teacher at Fort Belvoir,  read a story about sacrifice and serving. Students got to use their American Flags to play a game throughout the story.  SGM and his wife then celebrated with the class by sharing military cupcakes.  It was a great way for students to learn about service and sacrifice while also celebrating the students in the class that have military family members.
