Congratulations to Mr. James Carlisle on his recognition as the February 2023 FCPS CARES Region 3 Recipient of the Month, presented by the FCPS Department of Human Resources.

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story below, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees.

Below is the write-up submitted by Ms. Sarah Belzer, a colleague at Woodlawn Elementary.

Mr. Carlisle is constantly putting his students and his community first. He is very active in several roles around the school. He created a book club for students after school to support literacy skills and build a love of reading in students at Woodlawn. He has also restarted our PTA with parent involvement. He currently helped get a club started called Roots and Shoots that supports students and their love for the environment and the community. He had a speaker come to the school to discuss books his grade level was reading in regards to Conservation. The speaker has a connection to Jane Goodall's Foundation, and there was student interest in starting Roots and Shoots. In his poetry unit, Mr. Carlisle had his students write a poem about what they dream about. He took their sentences, and together they created a very moving poem that is displaced in the fourth-grade hallway to create and foster community. Currently, he has created a knitting lunch bunch to support several student interests in his class in regard to fashion and design. All that is just the tip of the iceberg. Mr. Carlisle is always encouraging co-workers and supports their ideas for creativity and community building as well. He is a great leader and resource to the Woodlawn Community and deserves to be recognized for the support, energy, and time he has put into Woodlawn, the students, and their families.
