Angela Surratt, owner of “Not Just Hair” in Alexandria, visited Woodlawn PreK kids. Ms. Prior and Ms. Angela worked together to help the kids "learn to love their hair.”
Ms. Prior had noticed that some of the girls in my class had been talking about some hair being “pretty” and some hair being “ugly.” As a result, Ms. Prior started a mini-unit on hair and hair stylists to go with our Community Helper unit.
Ms. Prior invited Angela Surratt, owner of “Not Just Hair” in Alexandria to come visit the kids. Prior to their special visitor, PreK read some books like “Hair Love” and “I Love My Hair”. Ms. Angela did a big show and tell with her hair care products and showed the PreK students how she uses a booster seat and a small cape for kids who visit the shop. Then all the kids were given the chance to be "customers" for Ms. Angela.
